SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Senior Alyssa Katz (Cortlandt Manor, NY) scored the go-ahead goal 16:35 into the game and Western New England College never looked back en route to a 3-0 win over Becker College in its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey opener. This was the fourth consecutive win (and third shutout) or the Golden Bears who ran their overall record to 6-1.
Junior forward Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) scored on a penalty stroke with 6:46 to go in the game to add an insurance goal. Sophomore Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) also added a late goal for the Golden Bears on an assist from freshman Caitlin Gelber (Centereach, NY).
Katz and Jameson each moved into a tie for second place on the all-time WNEC scoring list with 87 points.
Junior goaltender Michelle DeSantis (South Plainfield, NJ) played a solid game for Becker finishing with eight saves. The Hawks fall to 2-4 (0-2 in the NAC).
