SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Senior midfielder Ian Lovett (Newton, MA) scored the game winner in the 75th minute with an assist from sophomore forward Jake Duker (Newton, MA) to lead No. 20 Amherst to a 1-0 victory over Western New England College Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 11) in a non-league match.

The Lord Jeffs, ranked third in the New England region, avenged a 1-0 loss to the Golden Bears last year in Amherst.

It was a fast-paced, hard-hitting contest with Amherst holding a 22-10 advantage in shots.

Both teams managed to keep one another off the board until Lovett fired home his first goal of the season on the only shot he took in the game.

Western New England College senior goalkeeper Chris Wilk (Derry, NH) had a solid outing with nine saves. Sophomore Jeff Grover(Framingham, MA) made five stops for Amherst.

The Lord Jeffs improve their record to 10-1 with their third straight win while the Golden Bears fall to 8-5-1.
