Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Heading into a long weekend trip, the Western New England College field hockey team wanted a win to start things off on the right foot.

Junior Sarah McQuarrie (Windham, ME) scored the game-winner with 4:22 remaining in the first half and junior Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) added a pair of second-half goals as the Golden Bears blanked visiting Smith College 3-0 in a non-league match Thursday afternoon (Oct. 12) at Golden Bear Stadium.

Western New England College did all of its scoring in a 12:21 span from the end of the first half into the second stanza. The team battled to a scoreless tie until McQuarrie notched her second goal of the season with an assist from senior Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) at the 30:38 mark.

Eggert then delivered her eighth and ninth goals of the season 7:59 into the second half.

Junior goalie Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) made five stops for her fourth shutout of the season.

Freshman Chelsea Henderson (White Plains, NY) had eight saves in her first collegiate start for the Pioneers who fall to 4-9.

Western New England College improves its record to 7-6 entering a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games at Husson (Maine) on Saturday and at Simmons on Sunday.
