Box Score BANGOR, Me. - The Western New England College field hockey team opened its long weekend road trip with a well-earned 4-2 decision over an improved Husson College squad Saturday (Oct. 14) in a key North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest.
The Golden Bears won for the fourth time in their last five outings to improve to 8-6 and 3-1 in the conference.
Husson took a 1-0 lead approximately 12 minutes into the opening half before senior Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) knotted the game with an unassisted goal at the 29:41 mark.
WNEC scored 1:41 later on a goal by junior Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ), with an assist from Jameson, to take a 2-1 advantage at intermission.Â
Husson (6-5, 5-2 NAC) tied the game 1:56 into the second half and the match stayed even for almost 16 minutes until junior Emily Popham (Orange, MA) tallied the game-winner with her second goal of the season with 17:20 left in the game. Classmate Sarah McQuarrie (Windham, ME) had the assist.
Eggert added an insurance goal with 5:40 left to seal the victory. It was her team high 13th goal of the season.
Junior Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) finished with eight saves for the Golden Bears.
Western New England College heads down I-95 for another conference game at Simmons Sunday (Oct. 15) in Boston.
