Power plays push Western New England College past Lebanon Valley

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Sophomore forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) had the game-winner on a power play goal and junior goalie Brandon Gervais (Lewiston, ME) made 31 saves as the Western New England College men's hockey team won its first home game of the season with a 4-1 non-conference victory over Lebanon Valley College Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Olympia Ice Center.

After a scoreless first period, the Flying Dutchmen (0-5) took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by senior forward Alex Beatrice (Randolph, NJ) at 8:03 of the second stanza.

Freshman forward Justin Graziano (North Haven, CT) tied the contest with his first college goal on a power play at the 16:40 mark before Majesty fired home his first goal of the season on another power play just 35 seconds before the end of the period.

Junior defenseman Nick Klassen (Parker, CO) and freshman defenseman Andrew Dinkelmeyer (Hicksville, NY) had the assists on Graziano’s goal. Sophomore defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) and junior forward Shawn Longley (Lewiston, ME) assisted on Majesty’s goal.

Sophomore left wing Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH) and sophomore center Joe Willard (Holliston, MA) added unassisted goals in the third period as the Golden Bears evened their record at 2-2. It was the fourth goal of the season for Lamy and first of the year for Willard.

This was the only the second win for WNEC over Lebanon Valley in eight meetings. The Golden Bears won the first contest 3-1 at the end of the 1998-99 season.
