WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Mistakes continue to haunt the Western New England College men's hockey team who suffered a 6-3 non-conference loss to Castleton State College Tuesday during "Senior Night" at the Olympia Ice Center.

The Golden Bears allowed three power play goals and couldn't overcame a pair of one-goal deficits in dropping their sixth straight game to fall to 3-15-3 with two games remaining in the season.

Castleton jumped to a quick 2-0 lead scoring both goals in an 11-second span early in the first period.

Junior forward Chris Girardi (Easton, CT) cut the margin to one with his first goal of the season at the 10:49 mark with assists from senior defenseman Dave Wright (New City, NY) and sophomore forward Steve Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT).

The Spartans took a 3-1 lead on a power play goal at 14:20 before the Golden Bears cut the lead to 3-2 when sophomore center Jonathan Hayes (Waltham, MA) fired home his fourth goal of the year with 14 seconds left in the period. Sophomore defenseman Pat Tamez (Mt. Laurel, NJ) received an assist as did senior goalie Brian Essig (Saddle Brook, NJ).

Castleton upped its margin to 5-2 after two stanzas by scoring power play goals at the 3:59 and 12:25 marks.

The Spartans put the game out of reach with a goal 20 seconds into the third period. Wright closed the scoring with his seventh goal of the season on a power play at 8:59 with an assist from freshman forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL).

Before the game, Western New England College honored its four seniors, Essig, Wright, forward Pat Henderson (Marlton, NJ), and defenseman Justin Murphy (Haverhill, MA), who were playing their final home game. Essig finished with 35 saves, including a couple of nice stops in the final period.
