Samantha Hensen has winning goal as Western New England College edges Nichols for first win

DUDLEY, Mass. â€" The Western New England College field hockey team continues to play close games, but now they have their first win.

Sophomore Samantha Hensen (Branchville, NJ) scored the winning goal with 5:08 remaining as the Golden Bears edged host Nichols College 4-3 Thursday night (Sept. 14) in a non-league contest.

It was the first victory of the season for Western New England College in five outings and the team’s first four goals of the campaign. Entering the game, the Golden Bears had allowed only six goals in four losses.

Senior Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) had two goals and an assist while junior Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) contributed a goal and assist. Junior Emilie Donka (White River junction, VT) finished with 10 saves.

Nichols (1-3) took an early 1-0 three minutes into the contest before WNEC answered with two goals to take a 2-1 lead at intermission.

After the Bison tied the match, Jameson put the Golden Bears ahead with her second goal at the 25:36 mark. Nichols came back and tied the game for the final time just 1:03 later.
