Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After playing its first six contests on the road, the Western New England College field hockey team was more than happy to finally play its first home game.
Junior Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) scored two goals, including the game winner 4:19 into overtime, as the Golden Bears held off upset-minded Manhattanville 3-2 Tuesday (Sept. 19) in a non-conference outing. Senior Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) had the assist on the winning shot.
Western New England College led 1-0 at halftime following a goal by sophomore Caitlin Gelber (Centereach, NY) with an assist from junior Emily Popham (Orange, MA).
Eggert made it 2-0 with her fourth goal of the season with an assist from Gelber only 1:19 into the second half.
The Valiants tied the game with two goals in a 28-second span.
Freshman Kara Smith (Clifton Park, NY) scored an unassisted goal at the 57:07 mark and junior Heather Allen (Augusta, ME) fired home the tying score just a short time later.
Junior goalkeeper Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) made 11 saves for the Golden Bears while sophomore Lauren Gagnon (Staffordville, CT) stopped 13 shots, including four in the extra session.
Western New England College improves to 3-4 with its third consecutive victory while Manhattanville remains winless at 0-6.
