SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College allowed two goals in the second half in dropping a 2-0 decision against host Springfield College in an opening round game of the Zenaty Invitational Saturday (Sept. 2) at Benedum Field.

The contest was scoreless well into the second half when the Pride finally broke through with a goal at the 15:26 mark. SC junior goalie Emma Kaplan then turned back a Golden Bear shot from point-blank-range with approximately three minutes left.

Springfield sealed the victory with an insurance goal with 1:25 remaining in the contest.

Junior goalie Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) kept Western New England College in the game by compiling a career high 19 saves.

Springfield, however, had the upper hand in both shots (21-5) and penalty corners (11-6).

Western New England College will face Endicott (who lost 3-2 to Rensselaer) at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 3) in the third-place game of the tournament.
