Western New England College and Eastern Connecticut battle to overtime tie

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College men's soccer team's defensive unit is off to a great start, now the offense has to start kicking into gear.

The Golden Bears completed the second round of action at the Springfield Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 3) by battling to a 0-0 double overtime tie against Eastern Connecticut State University at SC's Brock-Affleck Field.

Senior goalkeeper Chris Wilk (Derry, NH) made three saves while his Warriors counterpart Jay Barney finished with five stops.

Western New England College outshot ECSU by a slight 9-7 margin and had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks, but neither team was able to find the net on a wet and muggy afternoon.

WNEC and Albion (Mich.) (who played a 1-1 double overtime tie against Springfield) each finished with a 1-0-1 rceord in the tournament. Eastern Connecticut and Springfield both went 0-1-1.
