NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's hockey team scored three goals in both the first and third periods to defeat visiting Western New England College Saturday (Jan. 13) in an ECAC Northeast contest at the Stephen Hetland Memorial Arena.
The Corsairs led 4-0 before the Golden Bears finally got on the board with a power play goal by sophomore defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) at the 3:07 mark of the second stanza. Junior defenseman Pat Tamez (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and sophomore forward Jason Remsbecker (Farmingdale, NY) had assists on the goal.
UMD unleashed 56 shots in the contest in raising its record to 13-1-1 overall and 6-0 in the ECAC.ÂÂ
Sophomore goalie Kyle Sagnella (East Haven, CT) finished with 46 saves for the Golden Bears. Junior Glenn McCaffrey (Londonderry, NH) played the final 7:36 and allowed only one goal while making two stops in his Western New England College debut.
WNEC drops to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Golden Bears host Worcester State at 8:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 18) at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield.
