BRIDGEWATER, Mass. â€" Western New England College couldn’t hold a two-goal as Division II Stonehill College rallied for a 5-3 victory in an ECAC Northeast men’s hockey contest Thursday night (Jan. 25) at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.
The Golden Bears took a 2-0 lead after the first period following goals by sophomore defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) at the 4:02 mark and sophomore forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) at 12:53. Junior forward Nick Sampson (Reading, MA) assisted on both goals while senior forward Mike Amato (Mt. Laurel, NJ) had an assist on Balog’s score.
The Skyhawks tallied the first three goals of the middle stanza before junior forward Shawn Longley (Lewiston, ME) knotted the game at 17:33 with an assist from sophomore forward Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH).
Junior Brian Davis then netted his second goal on a short-handed score just 3:30 into the third period and that proved to be the game-winner.
Western New England College junior goalie Brandon Gervais (Lewiston, ME) finished with 40 saves while senior Josh Green stopped 25 shots for Stonehill.
The Golden Bears are now 7-10 and 1-8 in the conference. The Skyhawks improve to 5-9 and 4-7.
Western New England College visits Johnson & Wales at 7:00 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 27) in an ECAC Northeast contest.
