HENNIKER, N.H.- In the final game of the regular season, the Western New England College field hockey team dropped a 7-1 decision to host New England College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) game Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 24).
The Pilgrims scored three goals in the opening 14:48, the last two coming in a 34-second span, to take a 3-0 lead at half-time. Amanda Lester then scored two of her game high four goals in the second stanza to help NEC take a commanding 7-0 advantage at the 56:10 mark.
Western New England College (7-12) avoided the shutout when freshman Aimee O'Connell (Rome, NY) tallied her fourth goal of the season with 1:32 remaining in the game. Senior goalie Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) compiled 16 saves.
The Golden Bears, who finished third in the conference with a 5-3 mark, will host a quarterfinal round game of TCCC Tournament on Saturday (Oct. 27) with the opponent and time to be announced.
New England College (12-6) clinched second place in the conference with a 7-1 record.
