Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Western New England College and No. 5 Williams College played to an exciting 2-2 double overtime tie in a non conference men's soccer match between two of last year's NCAA Division III Tournament participants Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 19) at Suprenant Field.

The Golden Bears (5-1-2) surprised the visiting Ephs by taking a 2-0 lead in the opening half on goals by junior Dale Totman (Conway, MA) in the 11th minute and sophomore Ryan Nugent (Bath, PA) in the 35th minute. Senior Matt Sullivan (Springfield, MA) had the assist on the second goal.

Williams (3-0-1) rallied tying the match when junior Jay Ingram (Gahanna, OH) fired home a shot in the 58th minute followed by a goal from classmate Sam Empson (Washington, DC) in the 69th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Steve Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT) stopped four shots for Western New England College while sophomore Andrew Graham (Northbrook, IL) made three saves for Williams.

Both teams maintained their hustle and kept the pressure on each other until the final whistle in a well-played match.

Williams is ranked first in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) New England Division III poll while Western New England College (coached by former Williams great Erin Sullivan '96) is seventh.
