University of New England wins overtime decision over Western New England College

BIDDEFORD, Me. - Senior Lisa Baillargeon (Berlin, NH) put home a shot from point blank range to give the University of New England field hockey team a 2-1 double-overtime victory over visiting Western New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Saturday afternoon (Sept. 22).

The Nor'easters rallied from a 1-0 deficit to raise their record to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the confertence.

The Golden Bears, who were making their conference debut, remained winless at 0-8 after dropping their fifth single goal decision of the season.

Freshman Kaela Jalbert (Turner, ME) gave WNEC a 1-0 lead in the first half with her second goal in as many games at the 36:39 mark. Senior Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) had the assist.

UNE tied the contest when junior Nicole Mace (Readfield, ME) tallied an unassisted goal at the 60:04 mark of the second half.

That set the stage for Baillargeon's winning shot, which was assisted by sophomore Anne Cowles (Franconia, NH).

Once again, Western New England College goalie Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) had a strong effort finishing with 17 saves. Freshman Ayla Nelson (Auburn, MA) stopped six shots for the hosts.
