Golden Bears and Hawks tied for TCCC lead

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Western New England College men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie against host Roger Williams Saturday afternoon (Oct. 11) in a battle of the top teams in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

The Golden Bears, ranked 16th nationally, have a 9-1-3 record after stretching their unbeaten streak to 12. Coach Erin Sullivan's squad is 6-0-2 in the conference.

The Hawks are 7-3-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the conference as both teams share the league lead with 20 points.

Roger Williams held a 22-13 advantage in shots, but were kept off the board thanks to a nice performance by WNEC junior goalkeeper Dan Ruscigno (Wappingers Falls, NY) who finished with seven saves. A transfer from RWU, Ruscigno has an 8-0-2 record with five shutouts this fall.

Sophomore Peter Plate (Commack, NY) did his job for the Hawks stopping six shots, including one in the second extra session.

It was a hard-hitting match with 37 fouls (23 for WNEC) and a yellow card for both sides in overtime.
