SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore forward Katy Vogl (Cazenovia, NY) scored the game-winner 1:53 into overtime and freshman goalie Lindsey Orszulak (Longmeadow, MA) made 18 saves as the Western New England College field hockey team defeated visiting Castleton State in a non-league game Sunday afternoon (Oct. 19).
The Golden Bears improved their record to 3-13 following their second victory in as many days (WNEC beat Anna Maria 6-1 on Saturday).
The Spartans held a commanding 32-4 advantage in shots, but weren't able to score thanks mainly to Orszulark who stopped seven shots in the opening half and 11 in the second stanza.
This was the sixth goal of the season for Vogl who leads the squad with 14 points.
Castleton State (10-7) also had a 9-2 edge in penalty corners.
