Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Alex Dos Santos (Ludlow, MA) scored two goals, including the game-winner with 2:15 remaining, to lift the Western New England College men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over host Wentworth Wednesday night.
The goals were the first two of the season for Dos Santos and clinched the regular season title (for the second straight year) and the top seed for the Golden Bears in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) playoffs.
WNEC, ranked 15th nationally and second in New England, improves to 13-1-5 after finishing 9-0-4 (31 points) in the conference.
Roger Williams finished second with a 9-1-3 mark (30 points) while Curry (who tied Salve Regina 0-0 in double overtime tonight) placed third at 9-2-2 (29 points) in the standings.
Dos Santos opened the scoring only 7:17 into the match before the Leopards took a 2-1 lead at halftime following goals by senior Matt Martins (Bristol, RI) in the 20th minute and senior Ben Hamlin (Vernon, CT) in the 39th minute.
Western New England College tied the contest on a goal by junior Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) in the 68th minute as classmates David Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) and Jason Sabia (Poughkeepsie, NY) earned the assists.
That set the stage for Dos Santos who fired home the winning shot following an assist from senior Kevin Zimbal (Schenectady, NY).
Junior goalkeeper Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) made four saves for the Golden Bears while senior Joe Simon (Pittsfield, MA) stopped 10 shots for the Leopards.
Wentworth ends its season with a 5-10-4 record, including a 4-10-3 league mark.
Western New England College will host eighth-seeded Colby-Sawyer (5-10-3, 5-5-3 TCCC) at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 1) in a quarterfinal round match of the tournament.
