Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. - Junior forward Ryan Praleikas (Naugatuck, CT) had the game-winner with his first goal of the season as the Western New England College men's soccer team shutout host Colby-Sawyer 3-0 Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 8).
The Golden Bears, ranked 16th nationally, extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games and raised their record to 9-1-2 overall and 6-0-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Praleikas stunned everyone watching the match when he did a flip on a throw-in and fired a long toss that deflected off sophomore goalkeeper Will Berry (Berlin, VT) and into the top right corner of the net with just two seconds left before half-time.
WNEC broke the contest open when junior forward Jason Sabia (Poughkeepsie, NY) scored in the 72nd minute with assists from senior defender Kevin Zimbal (Schenectady, NY) and senior midfielder Jim Maples (Pleasant Valley, NY).
Senior forward Dale Totman (Conway, MA) provided the final goal in the 78th minute as sophomore forward Kienan Garn (Lake Huntington, NY) earned the assist.
Junior goalkeeper Dan Ruscigno (Wappingers Falls, NY) stopped three shots to gain his fourth shutout of the season.
Berry finished with nine saves as Colby-Sawyer fell to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Western New England College outshot the Chargers by a 20-7 margin.
This was the first of four away matches for the Golden Bears who visit Roger Williams (7-3-1, 6-1-1 TCCC) in a battle of league leaders Saturday (Oct. 11).
