Box Score Golden Bears to host Salve Regina in semifinals
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Brian Dill (Portland, CT) netted his second goal of the season just 47 seconds into the match as top-seeded Western New England College blanked seventh-seeded Colby-Sawyer 3-0 in the quarterfinal round game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Men's Soccer Tournament Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1) at Suprenant Field.
WNEC (14-1-5), ranked 15th nationally, will host fifth-seeded Salve Regina (a 1-0 winner over fourth-seeded New England College) at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 5) in a semifinal round contest.
It was a hard-hitting match as five yellow cards (four to Colby-Sawyer) were distributed between the two teams.
Senior forward Dale Totman (Conway, MA) notched his team leading 11th goal of the season with the assist from junior midfielder Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) in the 21st minute to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Colby-Sawyer (5-11-3, 5-6-3 TCCC) managed to get a shot on goal late in the first half and was held to five total attempts.
In the second frame WNEC tallied its final score on an Own goal in the 61st minute. The Golden bears finished with 22 shots in the contest.
Western New England College junior goalkeeper Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) had one save and recorded his third shutout of the season.
Colby-Sawyer used three keepers in the game as junior Chris Feltes (Manchester, NH) and sophomores Will Berry (Berlin, VT) and T.J. Doherty (East Granby, CT) and combined for 10 saves.
