WORCESTER, Mass. - Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) scored midway through the second half to lift WPI to a 1-0 shutout victory over visiting Western New England College in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday evening (Sept. 16).

With the win, the Engineers improve their record to 3-2 while WNEC slips to 0-5.

The Crimson and Gray scored the only goal of the contest in the 54th minute when Johnson fired home a shot following a pass from Jackie McDonough (Winchester, MA) into the back of the net following a penalty corner.   

Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) turned away two shots for her third shutout of the season. 

Western New England freshman goalie Lindsey Orszulak (Longmeadow, MA) was outstanding in net for the Golden Bears stopping nine shots while senior defender Jessica Abelson (Pittsford, NY) aided the WNEC defensive effort with a pair of defensive saves.

WPI enjoyed a 20-3 edge in shots, including a 14-1 advantage in the second half.
