PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Scoring a goal in each half, St. Lawrence (N.Y.) blanked Western New England College 2-0 in a first-round match of the Cardinal Classic Women's Soccer Tournament Friday night (Sept. 5).

Junior Becca Townsend (Stockton, NJ) gave the Saints a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute and senior Lauren Sischo (Rodman, NY) added an insurance goal in the 60th minute.

Freshman Morgan Vogt (Henniker, NH) had the only shot for the Golden Bears with junior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) recording five saves. SLU finished with 13 shot attempts in the defensive battle.

Western New England College will meet Norwich (who lost 1-0 to host Plattsburgh) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 5) in the third-place contest. Both teams have 0-2 records.

St. Lawrence (3-0) will face Plattsburgh (2-0) at 7:00 p.m. in the championship match Saturday.
