SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 decision in overtime over Roger Williams Saturday afternoon (Oct. 17) during "Senior Day" at Suprenant Field.
The winning goal came on an Own goal by the Hawks with 1:01 left in the extra session.
WNEC is now 10-4-2 overall and 7-2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
This was the ninth consecutive shutout for the Golden Bears who are 7-0-2 over the stretch.
The dramatic end came when senior midfielder
Tony Rosa (Ludlow, MA) crossed the ball from the left side where a RWU defender deflected the ball into the net.
Senior goalkeeper
Dan Ruscigno (Wappingers Falls, NY) made just his third start of the season and had two saves in the first half. Senior
Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) played the rest of the way and received credit for the win despite not making a save. He now has a 9-3-2 record.
Rosa, Ruscigno and Bak were among nine seniors honored during the Family & Friends Weekend contest.

Peter Plate (Commack, NY) stopped seven shots for Roger Williams who saw its nine-match winning streak come to an end.
The Hawks are 12-4 overall and first in the conference with an 8-2 mark.
Western New England College out-shot the visitors by a 17-10 margin and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Each side committed 13 fouls.
