Katy Vogl scores a goal and assist as Western New England College earns its first win over Anna Maria in conference action

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
– Junior forward Katy Vogl (Cazenovia, NY) scored a goal and had an assist as the Western New England College field hockey game picked up its first win of the season over Anna Maria 2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) on Saturday (Sept. 19) at Golden Bear Stadium.

Western New England College is now 1-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Anna Maria drops to 0-5 and 0-2 in TCCC play.

WNEC took an early 1-0 lead as Vogl set up junior forward Kaela Jalbert (Turner, ME) who found an open hole between the Anna Maria goalie and post.

The Amcats came back to tie it at the 21:42 mark on a score by junior forward Emily Nugent (Worcester, MA). Freshman Marybeth McClune (Worcester, MA) had the assist.

Vogl put in the game winner with 26:42 remaining in the second half and the defense stepped up to hold Anna Maria to only five shots.

The Golden Bears out shot Anna Maria 21-11 and drew 14 penalty corners.

Sophomore goalie Lindsey Orzsulak (Longmeadow, MA) had eight stops for Western New England College.

Junior goalie Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, MA) finished with 10 saves for Anna Maria.
