AUBURN, Mass. - The Western New England College men's hockey team blanked Division II Southern New Hampshire University 7-0 to capture the
Pepperidge Farm Face-Off Classic Saturday night (Nov. 13).
Junior forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) was named the Tournament MVP while freshman goalie Eric Sorenson (Rochester, NY) made the All-Tournament Team.
WNEC jumped to a 3-0 lead after the opening period and extended its margin to 5-0 after 40 minutes.
Sorenson compiled 26 saves for his first collegiate shutout.
Freshman forward John Lineberry (Henniker, NH) led 10 players who scored points with two goals.
Grahl, junior forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA), freshman forwards Chris Connors (Albany, NY), Trent Krueger (White Bear Lake, MN), and Brian Prost (Parma, OH) each contributed a goal and assist.
Junior forward Rory Hansen (Noblesville, IL), freshman forwards Dan Monahan (Monroe, NJ), and freshman defenseman Cam Napolitan (East Longmeadow, MA) added two assists apiece. Freshman forward John Kelly (Long Island, NY) chipped-in with an assist.
Freshman goalie Tyler Holske (Attleboro, MA) stopped 36 shots for the Penmen (1-2).
The Golden Bears are now 2-0-1 this season.
In the third-place game, host Worcester State and Johnson & Wales battled to a 3-3 overtime tie.
