SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The fourth-seeded Brandeis University Judges captured the 2010 ECAC Division III New England Men's Soccer Championship with a 4-2 victory over second-seeded Western New England College on Sunday (Nov. 14) at Suprenant Field.
Senior goalkeeper
Taylor Bracken (North Andover, MA) was honored as the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
The Judges grabbed an early lead at 10:17 when freshman midfielder
Kyle Feathers (Pinebrook, NJ) headed home a free kick taken by senior midfielder
Kyle Gross (Montpelier, VT).
Sophomore midfielder
Joe Eisenbies (Hingham, MA) notched his eighth goal of the season at 22:55 to put the visitors up 2-0 heading into the break.
Brandeis tallied a pair of goals early in the second stanza. Senior forward
Steve Keuchkarian (Watertown, MA) converted a penalty kick at 48:48; then seven minutes later, sophomore forward
Lee Russo (Westford, MA) scored his team-high tenth goal of the year on an assist from Feathers.
The Golden Bears got on the board in the 73rd minute as senior midfielder
Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) scored with assists from junior midfielder
Corey Howard (Hopedale, MA) and senior defender
John Stather (Foxboro, MA).
Stather then tallied his first career goal on a penalty kick in the 84th minute.
Bracken was again outstanding in net, turning away six shots in 83:30 minutes of action. He made 13 saves and allowed just one goal in 231 minutes, 30 seconds in the tournament.
Brandeis previously won the ECAC men's soccer championship in 1994 and 2006. The Judges ended their season with a 12-7-1 record.
Western New England College concluded the year with a record of 15-7-2.
