Freshmen shine as Western New England College blanks Worcester Polytechnic

WORCESTER, Mass.
- The Western New England College field hockey team won its second game of the season with a 2-0 shutout victory over host Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 14).

Freshman midfielder Jaynie Mueller (Colorado Springs, CO) had a goal and assist for the Golden Bears who raised their record to 2-3.

Mueller gave WNEC a 1-0 lead with her first collegiate goal on a penalty stroke at the 28:52 mark of the opening half.

The game remained close until senior forward Aimee O'Connell (Rome, NY) tallied her second goal of the season with an assist from Mueller with 29 seconds remaining.

Freshman goalie Brittney O'Brien (Carver, MA) turned away eight shots for her first collegiate win.

Sophomore Aly Caceres (Fall River, MA) finished with six saves for the Engineers who drop to 3-2.

The Golden Bears held a 13-11 advantage in shots.
