SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior midfielder
Emily Widdison (Greenfield, MA) tallied four goals to lead Nichols to a 5-4 come from behind victory over Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match on Thursday (Oct. 27) at snowy Golden Bear Stadium.
Nichols improves to 9-7 overall with 5-4 mark in CCC play; while the Golden Bears slip to 4-15 with a 2-7 conference record.
WNE jumped out to an early lead as freshman midfielder
Whitney Fraleigh (Poughkeepsie, NY) put home the opening goal at 6:44.
Sophomore forward
Sarah Race (Cazenovia, NY) made it 2-0 at 19:49 with an unassisted goal.
Widdison got the Bison on the board at 23:46 for her first goal of the evening.
After taking a 2-1 lead into halftime; junior forward
Caitlin Foster (Hyde Park, NY) scored the next two goals to stretch the WNE lead to 4-1. Sophomore defender
Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT) and sophomore midfielder
Jaynie Mueller (Colorado Springs, CO) picked up the assists.
The Bison would cut the lead to 4-2 on a goal by freshman forward
Avery Orszulak (Springfield, MA) at 53:54.
Widdison then took control, scoring the next three goals in a ten minute span to lead Nichols to victory. She notched the game-winner at 68:15 on an assist from freshman forward

Molly Melanson (Simsbury, CT) recorded seven saves to earn the win in the cage.

Emily Mastrapaolo (Cazenovia, NY) made six stops in the contest.
The Golden Bears will close out the regular season by traveling to Gordon on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 1:00 p.m. in CCC play.
