Western New England finishes season with tough 1-0 loss at Gordon in CCC play

WENHAM, Mass. – The Western New England field hockey team fell to Gordon 1-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday (Oct. 29) afternoon to close out the regular season.
 
After a scoreless opening period, freshman midfielder Karli Balmer (Perkasie, PA) tallied the game's lone goal on an assist from senior forward Samantha Neverett (Athol, MA) at 59:32.
 
The Fighting Scots had an 11-4 advantage in shots on target, and a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.
 
Western New England senior defender Kathleen Jasinski (Templeton, MA) led the team with a pair of shots on goal.
 
Gordon sophomore goalkeeper Anna Bury (Huntingdown, MA) made three saves to earn the shutout victory in the cage.
 
WNE freshman goalie Emily Mastrapaolo (Cazenovia, NY) recorded 10 saves in the losing effort.
 
The Golden Bears finish the season at 4-16 overall with a 2-8 mark in conference play. The Fighting Scots end regular season play at 9-11 with a 4-6 CCC record.
