BRISTOL, R.I.
– The Roger Williams University men's tennis team handed Western New England its first loss in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) after posting an 8-1 victory Monday afternoon (Apr. 18).

The Hawks also snapped the Golden Bears' 12-match win streak and moved into a tie for second place in the conference with Western New England at 8-1.

Senior Matt Minahan (Plymouth, MA) won his number four singles match by default for Western New England's only point.

Senior co-captain Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) put up a strong challenge at number one singles before dropping a tough 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) decision.

Jones and sophomore Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) played well at the top doubles spot despite coming out on the short end of an 8-6 verdict to junior Kevin Erikson (Tolland, CT) and sophomore Nate Rohman (Topsham, ME).

Erikson then dropped only four points in winning his number two singles match in straight sets.

Roger Williams is now 12-6 while Western New England drops to 12-3.
