BEVERLY, Mass. – The Western New England men's soccer team opened up the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 3-0 road win over Endicott on Saturday (Sept. 10) afternoon at Endicott Stadium.
Western New England improves to 4-1 on the year; while the Gulls drop to 0-3 to start the season.
The Golden Bears grabbed the lead in the 19th minute when they were awarded a penalty shot after a foul by Endicott in the box. Senior midfielder
Corey Howard (Hopedale, MA) stepped up to convert the chance for his second goal of the season.
Senior forward
John Rusin (Chicopee, MA) gave WNE a 2-0 advantage as he capitalized on a loose rebound to score his first goal of the season.
Sophomore forward
Jake Bartnik (East Longmeadow, MA) added a second insurance tally in the 60th minute to help put the game out of reach. Bartnik leads the Golden Bears with five goals in the first five games of the year.
The Golden Bears held a 15-8 edge in shots; with an 8-4 advantage in shots on target.

Domenick Villano (Bronxville, NY) made three saves in recording the victory in net.
Freshman goalkeepers
Alex Jorge (Billerica, MA) and
Aaron Kanter (Medfield, MA) combined to make five stops for the Gulls.
Western New England heads back on the road to face Rhode Island College on Sunday (Sept. 11) at 1:00 p.m.
