First Half Dooms Field Hockey at Salve Regina

Box Score MIDDLETOWN, R.I.--Captains Jaynie Mueller scored twice and Shelby Van Huysen added a pair of assists for Western New England University against Salve Regina University on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Bears suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Seahawks in Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action. Western New England falls to 5-11 (0-7 in the CCC) on the season, while Salve Regina ups its record to 8-6 (and 3-4 in the conference).

Western New England tied the hosts 2-2 in the second half, but dug itself an early 3-0 hole in the opening stanza.

Marissa Gagnon scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 25th minute that gave the Seahawks a 3-0 lead at the time.

Salve Regina outshot Western New England 16 to 11, but the Golden Bears held a 10-6 advantage on penalty corners.
