BRISTOL, R.I.--Host Roger Williams dealt Western New England a 3-0 setback in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action at Bayside Field on Wednesday. The Hawks improve to 8-5-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the CCC, while the Golden Bears sink to 7-9-1 and 1-6 in the league.
RWU kept pressure on the Western New England defense all afternoon long with 16 shots, including eight on frame.
The teams were scoreless until the 39th minute when Katie Lydon scored her seventh goal of the season on a short pass by Mariah Kaiser to the right of the penalty area, where Lydon tucked the shot to the left corner of the net.
Perhaps the most damaging play to the WNE side came with just 25 seconds before the first-half whistle when Haley Carignan netted her first goal on an assist from Lydon for a 2-0 advantage.
Hannah Noel sealed the win with a tally in the 52nd minute.
