WENHAM, Mass.--Caitlin Nedde scored three goals to lift top-seed Gordon College to a 3-1 win Saturday over eighth-seeded Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament quarterfinal action on Gordon's Quad. With the win, the Fighting Scots improve to 16-2 overall and they advance to the CCC Semifinals scheduled for Tuesday. The Golden Bears, meanwhile, end their season at 8-11-1.
Nedde recorded her first goal of the afternoon in the 26th minute after beating WNE keeper
Briana Kubik to the back post on a double assist from Taylor McSherry and Jamie Breton for a 1-0 lead. Then, just 33 seconds later, Nedde flicked in her second tally off a cross from the left side by Kendra Woudenberg to put the Fighting Scots ahead for good. She added an insurance marker in the 85th minute.
Emma Norden scored her fifth goal in the 52nd minute to make it 2-1 at the time. She leads all WNE freshmen with five goals and 10 points, both figures that rank second on the team.
Kubik, another freshman starter for the Golden Bears, finished with eight saves.
Gordon outshot WNE 19 to 7, including a 16 to 5 margin in the second half, but WNE led in corner kicks, 8-3.
