Gordon College Pulls Away from Field Hockey in the Second Half

Box Score WENHAM, Mass.--The Western New England University field hockey team couldn't sustain the momentum of a close first half into the second at Gordon College on Saturday, as the Golden Bears lost a 4-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference decision. The host Fighting Scots improve to 3-9 overall, including 1-3 in the CCC, while Western New England drops to 4-8 and 0-4 in the league.

Karli Balmer paced the Gordon offense with five points on a goal and three assists.

Brittany Hawkins' goal in the 8th minute allowed the Fighting Scots to take a slim 1-0 lead going into the intermission.

But the Golden Bears were unable to keep pace in the second half when Gordon tallied goals in the 38th, 40th and 58th minutes.

Freshman Ashley Adamson scored WNE's only goal in the 68th minute, unassisted, that marked her first career tally at the college level in six appearances to date.

Gordon had a slight 18 to 17 edge in shots, but Western New England led 8-6 in penalty corners.
