SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior midfielder
Patrick White (Milton, MA) led a balanced scoring attack with three goals as the Western New England men's lacrosse team opened its home season with a 12-5 victory over Trinity Wednesday afternoon (March 14).
Eight players netted goals and 12 scored points for the Golden Bears who evened their record to 1-1.
Western New England jumped to a quick 2-0 lead when sophomore midfielder
Sean Lawton (Abington, MA) and senior midfielder
Nick Jez (Somers, CT) each scored in the opening 1:43.
Junior midfielder
Matt Cohen (East Lyme, CT) put the Bantams on the board at the 5:33 mark of the opening period.
The Golden Bears scored three times in the second period for a 5-1 advantage at the break.
Lawton fired-in in his second goal with an assist from Jez with 6:36 left before the break. Senior midfielder
Joe Martin (Springfield, MA) took the ensuing face-off and passed to White who scored just five seconds later. Junior attacker
Corbett Corrigan Harreys (Essex, CT) then scored at 5:17 with an assist from senior midfielder
Andrew Mariani (East Brunswick, NJ).
Western New England later extended its lead to 7-2 when sophomore attacker
Colton Craig (Gales Ferry, CT) scored at 8:08 of the third quarter with an assist from Jez. Trinity never got closer than four the rest of the way.

James Reardon (Longmeadow, MA) contributed two goals and an assist for the Golden Bears. Sophomore attacker
Owen Caruso (Port Washington, NY) chipped-in with a goal and assist.
Martin won 12-of-21 face-offs and had six ground balls as did junior midfielder
Corey Johnson (Maybrook, NY).

Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) compiled eight saves.
Cohen led the visitors with three goals with junior attacker
Rob Nogueras (Parkland, FL) and freshman midfielder
James O'Connell (Middleton, MA) adding the other scores.

Peter Johnson (Riverside, CT) finished with 17 saves for the Bantams who fall to 0-2.
Western New England held a 45-33 advantage in shots, including a 22-11 margin the opening half.
