NORTHFIELD, Vt.--Norwich's Patrick Wilson kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to give the Cadets a 26-24 non-conference victory on Saturday at Sabine Field, snapping Western New England University's nine-game football regular-season winning streak. It was the season opener for both squads.
Wilson's game-winning boot culminated a 10-play, 63-yard drive in 57 seconds and came immediately after
Nick Fox-Edele had put Western New England ahead with a 37-yard kick of his own.
John Krafick, in his first year as the starting quarterback for Western New England, passed for 229 yards and two touchdowns.
Kevin Cook ran for 32 yards, including a 1-yard plunge to help put the Golden Bears up 7-0.
Adam Dunne had seven receptions for 84 yards, including a 6-yard catch for a 21-17 lead to open the scoring in the fourth quarter.
For Norwich offensively, Kris Sabourin completed 13 out of 27 passing attempts and totaled 210 yards while throwing two interceptions, both by Alex Miller. Sabourin also added 64 rushing yards including two touchdown runs.
Nathan Fleming led the Golden Bears defense with a game-best 10 tackles, including eight solo stops. Greg Hanson also chipped in eight solo tackles.
