KEENE, N.H.--The Western New England University field hockey team kept pace with Keene State College in the first half, but couldn't withstand the Owls' offensive pressure in the second during a 9-2 loss to the hosts in both teams' season opener on Saturday.
Senior tri-captain
Shelby Van Huysen led the Golden Bears by scoring a goal in each half. Western New England trailed only 3-1 at the intermission.
Keene State, however, scored six times on 21 shots in the final 35 minutes to secure the non-conference victory. The Owls had huge advantages in shots (37-4) and corners (12-4).
Goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Hall made 17 saves in the WNE cage while Caitlin Davino-Drape played the first 56 minutes and 19 seconds to pick up the win for KSC.
Kalin Billert netted a hat trick to lead the KSC offense.
