Box Score
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--Senior co-captain midfielder
Alexis Bshara scored twice as part of a three-goal first half to help the Western New England University women's soccer team to a 4-1 non-conference victory Tuesday at Mount Holyoke at the MHC Soccer Field. The Golden Bears move to 4-4-1 on the season after snapping a four-game losing streak, while the homestanding Lyons slip to 0-5-1.
The Golden Bears struck first as freshman
Emma Norden put one past Mackenzie Randall off a feed from
Sarah Marois in the 27th minute.
Western New England wasted little time in adding to its advantage as Bshara capitalized on a missed clear in front and sent a high arching shot over the reach of Randall just a minute and 36 seconds later.
Bshara then made it a commanding 3-0 lead for the visitors in the 37th minute as sophomore
Avery Clark settled a loose ball on the left side and laid it back for the looping put-in.
Karoline Sperber capped the game's scoring in the 73rd as she drilled a long shot into the right corner of the net. The ball had originally been blocked a few feet up by a Mount Holyoke defender, giving Sperber the rebound attempt.
Freshman goalkeeper
Briana Kubik lost her shutout bid with 2 minutes and 2 seconds remaining in the half as a foul in the box awarded the Lyons with a penalty shot. Sophomore Hannah Yee lined up for the kick, sneaking it in on the right side past a diving Kubik to make it 3-1.
Overall, the Golden Bears held an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
