Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Freshman Brooke Kumnick scored the first two goals of her Western New England University field hockey career on Tuesday night to lead the Golden Bears to a 6-0 blanking of Elms College in non-conference action at Golden Bear Stadium. Western New England snaps its three-game losing streak to improve to 3-5 on the season, while the visiting Blazers dip to 1-7.

Alyssa Chamberlain registered her first goal of the season in the ninth minute to give all the offense the Golden Bears would need. Jaynie Mueller and Chelsea Hayes were credited with assists on the play.

After Caitlin Foster netted her team-leading fifth goal in the 28th minute on a feed from Lindsay Lalonde, Kumnick wrapped up the first-half scoring in the 33rd and then opened up the second half with her second goal in the 39th.

In the 43rd minute, Chamberlain tipped in a second tally from the left side of goal on a pass by Sarah Race for a 5-0 advantage.

Laura Madaio capped the Golden Bears' best offensive output in two years in the 54th minute with a blast from the right side, as the shot sailed through traffic in front of the cage.

The last time Western New England recorded a shutout was the 2010 regular-season finale on Oct. 28, when the Golden Bears blanked these same Blazers, 7-0, in Chicopee.

The Golden Bears also held a huge territorial advantage, evidenced by advantages in shots (22-2), shots on goal (17-1) and penalty corners (15-4).
