SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Shelby Van Huysen scored a goal in her return to the Western New England University lineup on Saturday evening, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Bears had their Homecoming game spoiled by Salve Regina, 4-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action at Golden Bear Stadium. The visiting Seahawks up their record to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while Western New England falls to 3-7 and 0-3.
Kelly Burke recorded a hat-trick for the Seahawks, with goals in the 8th, 12th and 30th minutes. SRU enjoyed a 3-0 lead going into the intermission, outshooting the Golden Bears 18 to 5 over the first 35 minutes.
Western New England cut the deficit to 3-1 by opening the second-half scoring in the 59th minute on Van Huysen's second-team-leading fourth goal of the season from the top of the striking circle. She had missed the team's previous two games with an injury.
But Lisa Bucci gave SRU its final margin with a goal 10 minutes later on a pass from Alexandria Rizzo, who finished with two assists.
Kaitlyn Hall kept the Golden Bears within striking distance by making a game-best 16 saves.
