Univ. of New England Spoils Senior Night for Field Hockey, 4-0

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Hayley LaPointe scored two goals to lead University of New England to a 4-0 win Saturday evening over host Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action at Golden Bear Stadium. The Nor'easters improve to 10-5 overall, including 8-0 in the CCC, while the Golden Bears fall to 2-13 and 1-8.

The Golden Bears gave the CCC leaders fits in the early going by holding the Nor'easters off the scoreboard until the 22nd minute off the stick of Casey Clark, who recorded her eighth goal of the season.

UNE clung to that same 1-0 lead through halftime and until the 40th minute, getting an insurance tally from LaPointe's first of two markers.

The Nor'easters held a commanding 21 to 4 lead in shots and 13-8 in penalty corners.

Four different Golden Bears--Tori Cirocco, Sabrina Lyesiuk, Jaynie Mueller and Sarah Race--had a shot on goal.

Freshman goalie Jessica Hale tried to keep WNE close by making nine saves, while UNE's Holly Smith had three stops to earn the shutout.

Before the game, the Golden Bears honored their senior quartet of captains Mueller, Race, Alissa Doiron and Kimberly Perez and recognized them for their contributions on and off the field.
