Golden Bears Write Winning Script in Comeback Against Division II SNHU Penmen, 5-3

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England men's hockey team erupted for five goals in the third period en route to a come-from-behind 5-3 victory Saturday over NCAA Division II Southern New Hampshire in a non-conference tilt at Smead Rink. The winning Golden Bears is 7-3 overall for the first time since 2011, while the Penmen (7-4-1) extend their winless streak to four following a seven-game win streak.

Senior Alan Martin and sophomore Chris Lembo each recorded three points for Western New England, which trailed 2-0 before senior captain Brian Prost scored on the power play early in the second period to ignite a four-goal rally.

Steven Berry and Jay Sylvia had staked the Penmen to a 2-0 lead beginning midway through the first period.

Junior Andrew Cramer almost scored WNE's first goal on a mini-breakaway just 1 minute into the second period, but he was stymied by Tyler Holske (31 saves).

But Prost got the Golden Bears on the board at the 4:40 mark of the season period with his team-leading seventh goal of the season on the power-play. Junior assistant captain Brandon Stroud took a shot from the point and Prost pounced on the rebound. Martin and Lembo soon followed as WNE scored three goals in a span of 1 minute and 20 seconds--the fastest for WNE during the collegehockeystats.net era.

Stroud extended the WNE lead to 4-2 with a power-play goal on assists from Lembo and Cam Napolitan at the 11:07 mark of the second.

Jim O'Connor cut the deficit to 4-3 just 31 seconds later on assists from Brian Troy and Connor Audycki.

Lembo sealed the win with his second goal of the contest with 2 minutes left, getting assists from Martin and Dane Genord.

Genord, a freshman, registered the first two points of his career on assists.

Senior goalie Eric Sorenson had 30 saves.

Western New England--which has achieved its best record to end the fall semester since at least the 1999-2000 season--resumes action on Jan. 4 at Trinity-Conn.
