SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Sophomore
Kaitlynn Stevens poured in career highs of eight goals and nine points to lead all scorers, plus she had a game-best seven draw controls, to pace Western New England to a 17-11 victory Saturday over Worcester State in the second semifinal of the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Women's Lacrosse Championship at Golden Bear Stadium.
With the win, the top-seeded Golden Bears improve to 15-5 after winning for the ninth time in 11 home contests and will face No. 2 Mount Holyoke--a 16-6 winner against No. 3 Southern Maine in today's other semifinal--for the tournament title on Sunday (1 p.m.). The fifth-seeded Lancers end their season at 13-6, setting a school record for victories.

Taylor Scialdone added four goals and six points for Western New England, which outshot WSU 37 to 32. Sophomore tri-captain
Jessica Scannapieco scored twice (6 draw controls) to give her 100 goals for her 37-game career at WNE. Junior tri-captain

Tori Cirocco contributed two goals and an assist.
Worcester State was led by Jackie Connors with three goals, five points, five ground balls, three caused turnovers and seven draw controls. Kalia Chase led the Lancers with four goals.
The teams traded four goals during a 4-minute and 33-second span in the game's opening 10 minutes before Western New England jumped out to a 5-2 lead on tallies by
Bethany Peters, Scialdone and Stevens at the 16:31 mark of the first half.
Vicki O'Brien and Chase scored 1:08 apart to close within 5-4 at 14:11, but that's the closest the Lancers would get for the remainder of the contest. The Golden Bears scored five of the next seven goals to go into the intermission up 10-6.
Then Western New England opened the second half with a 4-1 run to gain a comfortable 14-7 advantage at the 17:46 mark.
Melissa Perry (5-2) backstopped the victory by making seven saves before fellow sophomore
Emily Castleman played the final 16:21 while stopping four shots. Alex Chisholm had 10 saves for Worcester.
