Freshman Goalie Emily Arnold Posts 19 Saves in 7-0 Loss to Keene State

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England gave visiting Keene State all it could handle in the first half before eventually falling to the Owls, 7-0, in non-conference field hockey action at Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday. It was the season opener for both squads.

Freshman goalie Emily Arnold was impressive in her WNE debut, making 12 of her 19 saves in the opening 35 minutes to hold KSC to only a 2-0 advantage at halftime. Keene State outshot WNE 18-0 in the first half, but Arnold made numerous tough saves to keep the Golden Bears within striking distance.

Lyndsie Rabenius and Haylie Dolan led the Owls' offense by each recording two goals and an assist.

Keene State scored five times in the second half to break open a close game.

The Owls also dominated in shots (33 to 1) and penalty corners (13-2).

Senior tri-captain Jaynie Mueller had WNE's lone shot of the game in the 51st minute that Allison Sonia--two of three goalkeepers that the Owls used on the afternoon--turned aside. Starter Chloe Audesse was credited with the win.

Western New England returns to action against non-conference foe Westfield State at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Golden Bear Stadium.
