Box Score
WENHAM, Mass.--Andrew Vandervoort scored the game-winning goal with just 2 minutes and 3 seconds left in the game to lift Gordon to a 3-2 win Saturday evening over Western New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer opener for both teams, spoiling a valiant Golden Bears comeback. The host Scots improve to 5-0 overall while WNE drops to 3-2.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first 25 minutes, WNE got on the scoreboard in the 38th minute on freshman
Scott Trautwein's first career goal. Fellow first-year
Ryan Dickinson assisted on the play.
The deficit remained 2-1 in the second half until senior
Jake Bartnik drew WNE even with a penalty kick goal in the 70th.
Kellen Kasiguran put Gordon up 2-0 in the 18th and 25th minutes, with the latter goal coming from an almost impossible angle. He found the back of the net on a direct free kick near the right corner flag.
In the waning minutes, Andy Guthrie sent a ball into the box where Vandervoort picked up the pass and feathered a shot just underneath the hand of WNE goalie
Domenick Villano into the lower right corner of the net.
Gordon held a slim 12-9 shots advantage and both teams had seven corner kicks.
