Golden Bears' Comeback Bid in Biddeford Spoiled Quickly in Overtime by UNE

Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine--Erin Bibber tapped in the game-winning goal 43 seconds into overtime to lift University of New England to a 3-2 victory over visiting Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action at the Big Blue Turf on Saturday evening. The Nor'easters up their record to 3-3 overall, including 2-0 in the CCC, while the Golden Bears dip to 1-5, 0-2.

After trailing 2-0 in the second half, WNE mounted a furious comeback beginning in the 59th minute on goals by Kimberly Perez and Tori Cirocco 2 minutes and 43 seconds apart. Senior tri-captain Sarah Race assisted on Perez's first career goal that came on bouncing shot through a crowd from the right side.

Bibber's first goal of the season came during a scramble in front of the WNE cage when she pushed the shot into the open goal after the ball was stopped behind freshman goalie Emily Arnold, who made the initial stick save on a long-range shot that was deflected in the circle.

Hannah Warren tallied her third goal in the 22nd minute and Beth Sullivan scored her first of the year in the 40th to spot UNE to a 2-0 second half lead. Hannah Tavella assisted on the first two Nor'easters' goals.

Arnold finished with 13 saves to keep WNE within striking distance, as UNE outshot the Golden Bears 20 to 3.

University of New England also enjoyed a huge advantage on penalty corners, 13-5.
