CASTLETON, Vt.--Sophomore
Bethany Peters had career highs of five goals and seven points to lead all scorers as visiting Western New England routed Castleton State, 21-12, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Spartan Stadium on Monday. The schools were originally scheduled to meet on March 13, but a heavy snow storm postponed that date.
With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 12-0 on the season; the Spartans, meanwhile, fall to 3-6.

Kaitlynn Stevens matched Peters' seven points on three goals and four assists, while teammate sophomore

Jessica Scannapieco is the fourth Golden Bear to notch a hat trick on the afternoon.
Maddy DaCosta pumped in five goals for the Spartans, who trailed 13 to 6 at the intermission. Kate Auer matched her with five points on four goals and an assist, while Kim Gosselin added three points (two assists) and Brandi Whittemore had two goals.
The Golden Bears controlled possession by getting 40 shots to 23 for Castleton. Western New England also fared better in turnovers (21-30), clears (14-of-17, 12-of-23) and ground balls (29-19). The Spartans led in draw controls, 20-15, and caused turnovers, 14-13.
Besides her offense, Stevens also helped on the WNE defensive end with team highs of five ground balls and six draw controls and had a game-high four caused turnovers. Sophomore
Megan Clune also had five ground balls and two caused turnovers, and teammate Scannapieco contributed four ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls.
For Castleton, Auer had seven draw controls, Whittemore posted five ground balls and two draw controls, and Tiffany Danyow caused four turnovers.
The teams traded goals to start the contest as senior tri-captain
Kelsey Sherman (1 goal, 2 assists) fed Scannapieco at the 28:31 mark and Auer followed 1 minute and 21 seconds later to tie it 1-1.
Just 53 seconds later, Scannapieco and Peters started back-to-back goals 1:49 apart for a 3-1 WNE lead.
The Spartans, however, tied it up 3-3 by the 21:37 mark as DaCosta and Whittemore scored consecutive tallies.
Sophomore
Tori Cirocco scored her fourth goal of the season on a pass from Stevens with 20:38 to go in the first half, sparking a string of four unanswered goals an 8-3 lead. Gosselin broke the streak with a goal at 11:50 on the block, but four goals were the closest Castleton would get for the rest of the contest.
A five-goal run in the second half broke the game open and put WNE in command, 19-7.
Western New England returns to CCC action on Wednesday when the Golden Bears travel to Bristol, R.I., for a conference showdown with Roger Williams.
