Host Western New England Shut Out by CCC Front Runner Gordon College, 3-0

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England conceded an early goal to Gordon College and couldn't quite recover in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Fighting Scots in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer game at Suprenant Field on Saturday. The Golden Bears dropped just their first home loss in six outings (4-1-1) and go to 6-4-1 on the season, including 1-2 in the CCC. Gordon--ranked 8th in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America--maintains first place in the conference standings while improving to 8-1 overall.

Just 2 minutes and 38 seconds after the opening kickoff, Aaron Terjanian put Western New England on its heels with his second goal of the season. Evan Crocker fed a pass to Daniel Perez in the box, where he found an open Terjanian at the 6 and took a touch to put the ball into the back of the net.

Crocker added an insurance goal, unassisted, in the 17th minute. Perez scored the Fighting Scots' final tally in the 66th with a rifle shot into the upper right-corner from about 25 yards out.

Freshman starter Maurice Young and junior Chad Burke who came off the bench led the Golden Bears with two shots apiece. Burke had one of WNE's best scoring chances in the 83rd minute when his long blast went over the top left-corner of the frame.

Gordon's Bruce Gerberich made three saves to earn the shutout while on the other end sophomore Kevin Strobel had six saves over 73 minutes of action. Sophomore Chris Ganhao made his Golden Bears debut playing the final 17 minutes, facing two blocked shots by his defensive corps.

The Fighting Scots also held a 21-9 shots advantage and took five of the eight corner kicks in the game.

Western New England will have to regroup quickly as it hosts crosstown rival Springfield College at noon Sunday in a non-conference affair.
