Endicott Downs Men's Soccer, 3-2, in Battle of CCC Unbeatens

Box Score
BEVERLY, Mass. (October 17, 2015) - Sophomore forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) turned in his second consecutive two-goal performance and third overall this season, but Endicott College edged Western New England University, 3-2, in overtime this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer action at Hempstead Stadium.

Today's match pitted the last two unbeaten teams in CCC play this season, as both squads came in tied atop the league standings with matching 5-0 marks.

Remillard, who found the back of the net twice in Western New England's 4-3, overtime loss to UMass Boston on Tuesday and on September 9th against Wheaton College, leads the Golden Bears and is now tied for second in the CCC with nine goals.

The sophomore staked Western New England to a 1-0 lead ten minutes into this afternoon's contest, when he took a pass from classmate Maurice Young (Walpole, Mass.) and fired an arcing shot into the upper left corner of the net.

Endicott equalized just three minutes and four seconds later, however, on senior midfielder Diego Slobotzky's (Mexico City, Mexico) sixth goal of the season, before taking the lead in the 33rd minute when Slobotzky found sophomore forward Diego Maillo (Plantation, Fla.).

Western New England junior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.), who turned aside four shots in the contest, made a key save in the 59th minute to keep the Golden Bears' deficit at one, as he tipped a shot by Endicott senior Abdulla Al Khalifa (Riffa, Bahrain) up over the crossbar.

With Western New England still trailing by a goal with just over four minutes remaining in regulation, Remillard leveled the score with his second strike of the contest, blasting a shot through traffic in front of the net and past Endicott junior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.).

Despite Remillard's heroics, the Gulls prevailed in overtime when senior midfielder Shintaroh Itoh (Tokyo, Japan) netted the game-winner at the 96:43 mark following a throw in by sophomore back Carter Ocko (Danvers, Mass.).

The Golden Bears held a 23-14 advantage in shots this afternoon, while both teams put seven attempts on target and recorded four corner kicks.

Western New England (7-7, 5-1 CCC) will look to bounce back from consecutive overtime losses on Wednesday at 3 p.m., when Salve Regina University visits Suprenant Field for a conference contest. Endicott (11-1-2, 6-0 CCC) plays host to Wentworth on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
